Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to our most common questions.

Why should I choose a virtual accounting team rather than hire a part-time or full-time bookkeeper?

With a virtual accounting team, you get an accounting department, from a data entry/clerk (AP, AR, and Payroll) to a CFO, with clear separation of responsibilities. Having a team to process all aspects of accounting (recording, maintaining, analysis, and reporting) provides a department unaffected by illness, vacations, or turnover.

How much should I expect to pay a bookkeeper?

The national average for a bookkeeper is $49,210 per year.
We are more than 1 person doing bookkeeping. We are a dedicated team working for you, almost always cheaper than 1 bookkeeper at the national average wage. From pricing starting at $249, $449 and $1900 per month, we are here to help you succeed!

What is the average cost for an accountant to do taxes?

Here is the breakdown:

Sole proprietorship: $300-$1,500

S-Corp: $1,200-$3,500

Partnership: $1,000-$5,000

C-Corp: $500-$2,500

What is the best way to find a bookkeeper?

A quick internet search can show great results, a referral from EA or CPA is another great way since they will be in touch during tax season. The Chamber of Commerce will have options for bookkeepers, and other small businesses will use bookkeepers and might give guidance.

What’s the difference between an accountant and a bookkeeper?

Bookkeepers keep the financial data organized and up-to-date, ensuring financial integrity, accuracy, and compliance. An accountant can also do so, but it is more common to find an accountant review the data provided by the bookkeeper for tax filing and advise the business on tax strategies.

Do tax preparers do bookkeeping?

Although some tax preparers offer bookkeeping as part of their services, it is not common practice. The tax preparer is dedicated to exactly that, tax preparation. The tax preparers expect the bookkeeper to maintain control and provide them with organized, reconciled historical data.

What are the biggest tax mistakes people make?
  • Not keeping current with the record keeping
  • Delaying the review of tax support documents
  • Commingling personal and business expenses
  • Misclassifying independent contractors to avoid payroll taxes.
  • Missing deadlines and extensions, as well as having misconceptions
  • Extensions only allow the paperwork to be late; estimated taxes must be paid on time with the paperwork to follow, or penalties will apply.
  • Overlooking the estimated quarterly taxes
  • Guessing at deductions or rounding them.
